TRAINING CENTER ON COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING OPENS IN TAJIKISTAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Dushanbe, Tajikistan. On January 3, 2008 Deputy Chief of Mission Tom Hushek congratulated the Government of Tajikistan at the official opening of the Training Center for Combating Trafficking in Person at the Faculty of Law, Tajik State National University in Dushanbe. The center was funded through the embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Assistance Program ($25, 000) with the purpose of preparing students as well as judicial and law enforcement professionals to combat trafficking in persons at all levels.
The center was established as part of the project, "Technical Assistance to the Government of Tajikistan on Combating Trafficking in Persons," implemented by the International Organization for Migration in Tajikistan. Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Chief of Mission Tom Hushek noted that the U.S. Government through numerous programs has been steadily assisting Tajikistan in its efforts to fight human trafficking, and the opening of the new training center is the latest of these efforts.
